Texas Tech Sweeps Oral Roberts
The Red Raiders win streak is up to six games for the first time since 2007. Game 3 started off just right with starting left handed pitcher Chris Sadberry, who retired nine consecutive batters. Sadberry exited the game allowing four hits, one run and had one strikeout after being drilled by the ball.
"I'm optimistic on Sadberry. We will just see what the doc says," Texas Tech coach Tim Tadlock said after the game. "It kind of got him on the meat part of the hand so we will see how that goes."
You can give a lot of credit to reliever Cameron Smith who was called on to pitch after Sadberry was injured. Last Sunday Smith had six innings of shutout relief against Indiana. Smith came in unexpectedly and pitched four innings allowed only two hits, no runs or walks and had two strikeouts.
"At the time I had a hoodie on walking back and forth cheering on teammates and then coach said get hot," Smith said. "When coach calls my name I have to go out there and do the best I can for my team."
There is no doubt that the Golden Eagles were on their defensive game today, but the Red Raiders had at bats that overcame that. Oral Roberts had a total of five double plays, which kept them alive. For the Red Raiders in the sixth inning the bats came alive. With the bases loaded Texas Tech scored off of a walk then a RBI by Ryan Long taking the lead 4-1. Overall the Red Raiders accounted for seven hits, three RBIs, and three walks.
Texas Tech looks to keep their win streak alive 1 p.m. Monday against BYU (1-7).
Tim Tadlock said from here they have to keep looking forward, enjoy the win but put it behind them.
"You don't look back," Tadlock said. "You just get ready for tomorrow and do the best you can on enjoying the series. We know BYU is hungry and they played a lot of baseball this weekend and they will be ready tomorrow."
