Cleveland Browns Career: 1958-1973
Bio
Born Feb. 15, 1936 at Trenton Tenn. Drafted from Mississippi in the seventh
round of the 1957 draft. Replaced Chuck Noll at right guard in 1958 after the
legendary coach was the Browns right guard in 1957. He would stay as a fixture
at right guard until he was switched to left guard for his final two seasons
with the Browns.
Gene Hickerson was one of the best guards to play in the NFL. He was recently
selected for the 2001 Class of the Cleveland Browns Legends, representing the
1960's.
Arguably, the best right guard in Browns history, Hickerson was one of the most
durable players for the Browns, playing 15 years. He played in 165 consecutive
games from 1962-73. Hickerson missed the 1962 season with an injury.
Hickerson helped Browns runners rush for 100 yards on 90 occasions during his
career.
