| During the 2002 season, Bruce Arians will be in his 27th year coaching offenses. He will be in his second year as the Browns offensive coordinator, the third time he has held that particular position with an organization. Experienced? Yes.
Arians started into coaching as a graduate assistant for the Virgina Tech Hokies in 1975. The year before, Arians was selected Most Valuble player as he finished his college career as the Hokies starting quarterback. Two years later, Arians accepted a coaching position with Mississippi State, tutoring the running backs and wide recievers.
The move to Mississippi State was the first of ten job changes Arians would have in those 27 years. Arians subsequently moved to Alabama (RB coach), Temple (head coach for five years), Kansas City (Chiefs RB coach), Mississippi State (again, off. coordinator), New Orleans Saints (tight ends coach), Alabama (again, offensive coordinator), and the Indianapolis Colts (QB coach). In 2001, Arians joined Butch Davis' staff as the offensive coordinator of the Browns.
During his time, Arians has worked for Paul "Bear" Bryant and has coached stars like Peyton Manning and Christian Okoye. Now he takes on a developing offense with a young quarterback and a nascent running game. It's yet another challenge for a coach who has the experience to meet it. |
