| Acquired by the Cleveland Browns via a draft-day trade with the New York Jets in April, 2009. The Browns had earlier in the month attempted to sign Elam to a contract as a restricted free agent, only to watch the Jets match their offer and retain Elam's services. After joining the team, Elam was immediately in the mix for the starting strong safety job, replacing Sean Jones, who left for Philadelphia via free agency.
