Philip Rivers was selected by the New York Giants with the fourth pick overall in the 2004 NFL Draft and traded to the San Diego Chargers, along with a 3rd-round pick in 2004 and 1st- and 5th-round picks in 2005.
2006
Started all 16 games after Drew Brees left for New Orleans as a free agent. Completed 284 of 460 passes (61.7%) for 3,388 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Was voted to the Pro Bowl, but was unable to attend due to a foot injury.
2005
Served as the No. 2 quarterback behind Drew Brees in all 16 games. Saw action in week 17 when Brees went down with a shoulder injury and completed 12 of 22 passes for 115 yards, no scores and an interception.
2004
After holding out most of training camp with a contract dispute, Rivers spent the majority of the season as the No. 3 quarterback behind Drew Brees and Doug Flutie. Saw game action in the second half of a week 17 game against the Chiefs, completing five of eight attempts for 33 yards and a touchdown.
