| It's cliche to say it, but we'll say it anyway: He just makes plays.
Observers were surprised with Davis pulled in the Miami WR with the last Browns pick of the 2001 draft. King wasn't the outstanding member of a Miami WR corps which included Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne. Plus, of course, he was "old". King played minor league baseball for several years and was 27 years old when drafted.
None of that made any difference, though, as King made the team and earned playing time by being a reliable target for Tim Couch. As higher choices sat on the bench, King got playing time with the team by the end of the year, making him one of the genuine steals of the 2001 draft.
The 2002 season starts off more problematic for King, however. With the addition of Andre Davis and Chris Sanders, plus the emergence of other good young recievers, King will have to compete hard to win a roster spot this Summer. What we've learned from the past, though, is to never count him out. |
