| Biography: |
| What a difference a year makes. After an outstanding 2001 season, Kevin Johnson has finally earned recognition as one of the better wideouts in football. Despite having no reliable #2 receiver to draw off opposing cornerbacks, KJ amassed 1,097 yards and 9 touchdowns on 84 receptions. The performance seemed to prove that KJ's stellar rookie campaign--986 yards and 8 touchdowns--was no fluke.
The Browns selected Johnson in the second round of the 1999 draft. A converted quarterback who played with Donovan McNabb at Syracuse, KJ possesses good speed and even better hands. His one-handed circus catches are quickly becoming the stuff of legend among the Browns faithful.
Critics contend that KJ is a prototypical #2 receiver, lacking the size and speed needed to lead an offense. Yet at 5' 11" and 195 pounds, Johnson's performance on the field has been clutch. KJ's ability to get open, especially around the end zone, has made him the favorite target of quarterback Tim Couch. KJ also happens to be the only player to start every game for the Browns since The Return.
The Browns have rewarded KJ's consistent performance with a new 5-year contract that should make him a mainstay of the Browns offensive attack for years to come.
