| Biography: |
| Here is a man who needs no introduction to Cleveland Browns fans. Tim Couch is, in a word, the franchise. The first pick of the Browns inaugural draft, he was selected for his accuracy, athleticism, and unquestioned competitiveness. In his first two years in the NFL, Couch has shown all that and more. Despite taking a brutal pounding behind a porous offensive line, Couch's rookie campaign ranks among the best of any signal caller--ever. In 2000, Couch ranked highly among NFL quarterbacks, until he broke his thumb during practice on the helmet of a Browns linebacker (a little-known backup who was cut almost immediately from the squad).
At 6'4" and 235 pounds Couch has almost prototypical quarterback size, but his mobility and willingness to take hits on the run make him a credible scrambling threat. And while he doesn't have a cannon arm, Couch shows outstanding touch and accuracy. When he develops timing with a receiver--the way he did with KJ in 1999--it can spell curtains for a defense. One reason for optimism: The weapons at Couch's disposal. With William Green, Ryan Tucker, and Andre Davis joining Couch's other weapons, the Browns QB may finally be getting enough talent around him to shine.
Contract Status: 7 yr, $48 mill., $12.25 mill. signing bonus. Signed in 1999. |
