Significant Injury History:
2003: Fractured left arm on tackle attempt on 12/8/03 and missed
remainder of season.
Season Notes: Starting role as inside linebacker never in doubt
through the pre-season and training camp... Coming off 2005 season where he
registered a career-high of 199 tackles... Hopes to use blocker-gobbling presence
of Ted Washington at NT to become even greater play-maker in 2006.
Career Notes: Received huge number of honors as placekicker
for the Texas Longhorns including first-team All-America and All-Big 12... Tied
Texas record with 54 consecutive PATs... Signed by the Oakland Raiders out of
college... Cut by the Raiders and signed by New England in August 1998 and spent
season on Patriots practice squad... Was signed by the Browns after the team
failed to sign the Patriots' kicker Adam Vinatieri... Won placekicker job during
Browns 1999 training camp and has never looked back... Scored first TD in the
new Browns stadium in 1999 on a fake field goal play... Scored over 60 points in
a season for the first time in 2001 by converting 22 of 25 field goals and 29
PATs for 90 points... Hit 100 points scoring during Browns 2002 playoff season
and again in 2004 and 2005... Hit 27 consecutive field goals until streak was
broken against NY Jets on 11/21/04... Ended 2005 season in second place on the
NFL's all-time field goal percentage list, a testament to Dawson's accuracy and
the Browns weak red-zone offense during the early expansion years... Known as
the "Human Battering Ram" by OBR denizens following TD and subsequent tackle
attempt during early game in 1999.
