| Acquired: Unrestricted Free Agent (Philadelphia), 2004
Marco Coleman joined the Broncos (3/11) as an unrestricted free agent from Philadelphia, and will add depth Denver’s defensive line. In 184 career games (169 starts), Coleman has 656 tackles (468 solo), 62 sacks for -410 yards, 17 passes defensed, 20 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. An experienced defensive lineman, he was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2000, when he made 12 sacks. Entering his 13th year in the NFL, he has played for Miami (1992-95), San Diego (1996-98), Washington (1999-2001), Jacksonville (2002) and Philadelphia (2003). Originally drafted in first round (12th overall) by Miami in the 1992 NFL Draft, he has missed just nine games in 12 seasons. Coleman has started all 16 games in seven seasons and appeared in 16 games nine of 12 seasons. He played right defensive end in his first eight seasons and left end the last four years. Coleman was named the NFL Rookie of the Year in 1992 by Sports Illustrated, and led San Diego’s defensive linemen in tackles three straight seasons (1996-98). 2004: Coleman showed no signs of slowing down in his 13th NFL season, starting all 16 games as a regular starter for the first time in two years. The veteran totaled 46 tackles (29 solo) on the year, which was the second-highest total among Broncos defensive linemen, 2.5 sacks (-14.5 yds.), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. His play was a major reason why Denver’s defense continued to perform at a high level despite the absence of Trevor Pryce for most of the year due to an injury. He started vs. Ind. (1/2) as Denver clinched a playoff berth with the win. At Tenn. (12/25), he posted two tackles (1 solo). Coleman added two tackles and half a sack at K.C. (12/19) with he and Mario Fatafehi combining to bring down quarterback Trent Green for a loss of five yards in the second quarter. He posted his second sack of the season (-9 yds.) vs. Mia. (12/12) when he pulled down Dolphins quarterback A.J. Feeley and forced a fumble on that first-quarter play. He finished the Dolphins game with two tackles (both solo). Coleman recovered his first fumble of the season at S.D. (12/5) that set up Denver’s first touchdown, and he finished the game with one tackle. Coleman tallied three tackles (all solo) vs. Oak. (11/28) in snowy, frigid conditions. He added two tackles (2 solo) and a pass breakup at N.O. (11/21) while helping limit Saints running back Deuce McAllister to only 42 yards rushing. Coleman recorded his second consecutive two-tackle game (both solo) vs. Hou. (11/7), including his first sack of the season (-3 yds.) on Texans quarterback David Carr in the second quarter. He contributed two tackles (both solo) vs. Atl. (10/31). Coleman recorded four tackles (1 solo) on Monday Night Football at Cin. (10/25). At Oak. (10/17), he made a tackle for a loss as the Broncos held the Raiders to only 31 yards rushing in the game. He finished the Broncos’ game vs. Car. (10/10) with eight tackles (3 solo), marking the second-highest tackle total on the team that day, to lead the Broncos’ run defense in limiting the Panthers to only 64 rushing yards. He contributed one tackle in the Broncos’ win at T.B. (10/3). Starting at left end in place of Trevor Pryce (herniated disc) for the second consecutive week, Coleman led an inspired Denver defense vs. S.D. (9/2 |
