| Biography: |
The Vikings signed Jermaine Wiggins on March 19, 2004, and immediately displayed their confidence in him as their No. 2 tight end by releasing Hunter Goodwin three days later.
Wiggins brings the experience of having played in two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl XXXVI with New England and playing against New England in Super Bowl XXXVIII as a member of the Carolina Panthers. The Vikings are hoping he can continue his role as a stretch-the-field, pass-catching tight end.
2004: Was the team’s leading receiver with 71 catches for 705 yards. His previous career best was 18 catches. Missed two games with a broken hand. Became the first Vikings TE to lead the team in catches since Steve Jordan in 1986 (since then, either Anthony Carter, Cris Carter or Randy Moss has held that title). Caught five passes in two playoff games.
2003: Started 11 games for Carolina, but caught only eight passes, his lowest output since turning pro.
2002: Played in 14 games, splitting time between Indianapolis and Carolina. Caught 10 passes.
2001: Started six games for New England, playing in all 16, and caught 14 passes and a career-high four touchdowns.
2000: Split time between the New York Jets and New England and produced what are still his career bests of 18 receptions for an 11.5-yard average.
1999: Was an undrafted rookie free agent in 1999 with the New York Jets.
College: Played two seasons at Marshall before finishing his college career at Georgia.
