| The Steelers signed UFA Chris Gardocki to a five-year contract in March 2004. Gardocki will be looking to replace Josh Miller as the Steelers punter for the 2004 season.
Cleveland Browns (1999-2003)
2003: Ran streak of unblocked kicks to 978 with another 72 punts without
a block... Averaged 41.9 yards per punt with a net of 34.8... Had a terrific
game against Oakland (game six), with four punts for 186 yards (46.5 average),
one a season-high of 54 yards, with three of those landing inside the 20-yard
line... Also surpassed 40,000 yards punting in that game.
2002: Kicked 81 punts for 3,388 yards (41.8 average, 35.3 net)... Was
among top ten in AFC for most punting categories... Season-high punt of 59 yards
game against Tampa Bay.
2001: Earned the lasting adoration of Browns fans via an obscene gesture
directed towards the Pittsburgh Steeler bench, captured on live television...
Gardocki was signed $5,000 for the gesture... Kicked 99 times for 4,249 yards
(42.9 average / 34.6 net)... Had a season-high 69-yard punt against Baltimore...
2000: Set Browns season record with 108 punts... Also set a record with
4.919 yards (45.5 average / 37.3 net)... Broke NFL record of 623 punts without a
block during season opener.
1999: Kicked 106 times for 4,645 yards (43.8 average)... Had four punts
of over 60 yards...
Indianapolis Colts (1995-1998)
1998: Punted 79 times for 3,583 yards (45.4 average / 37.1 net)... Went
over 20,000 career punting yards mid-way through the season.
1997: Punted 67 times for 3.034 yards (45.3 average)... Ranked second in
AFC, third in NFL in punting average... Kicked career-high 72-yard punt... Named
to Pro Bowl team.
1996: Was second in the AFC in punting average with 45.7 yards per kick..
Named to Pro Bowl... Only had two punts roll into the end zone for touchbacks
the entire season... Had twelve punts for 551 yards against Buffalo.
1995: Signed a free agent contract with Indianapolis prior to the
season... Kicked 63 times for 2,681 yards (42.6 average).
Indianapolis Colts (1991-1994)
1994: Punted 76 times for 2873 yards (37.8 average)... Nearly a third of
punts (23) landed inside the 20-yard line... Also kicked off for the Bears.
1993: Punted 80 times with an average of 38.5 per kick... Nearly half of
punts resulted in fair catches (38)... Handled kick-off duties...
1992: Punted 79 times with an average of 42.9 per kick... Made a 43-yard
pass off of a fake punt against Green Bay.
1991: Was kick-off specialist for the Bears... Drafted in the third round
(78th overall) by the Bears in the 1991 draft.
College Experience
Clemson (1988-1990)
Left college after three years to head to the NFL... Handled both punting and
place-kicking duties for Clemson...Was first-team All-ACC both sophomore and
junior years... Had 43-yard punting averages during last two years... Ranks
third all-time scoring at Clemson, with 261 points... Made all 72 PATs he
attempted in college.
