'Minor' Sigh Of Relief
Derek Anderson

Posted Aug 19, 2008

It's the question on everyone's mind following the Browns loss to the Giants on Monday night. Lane Adkins and John Taylor have learned more about the severity of injuries to Derek Anderson and Josh Cribbs....

At least on the injury front, the Browns have one reason to somewhat breathe a sigh of relief following last night’s debacle.

A source close to Derek Anderson has confirmed to the Orange & Brown Report that the quarterback indeed suffered a concussion, although, fortunately, it’s being labeled as a “minor” form of the head injury.

Anderson suffered the injury early in the second quarter of the loss when he was driven into the turf on a blind-side hit by a Giants’ defensive lineman. After being examined on the sidelines by Browns’ medical personnel, Anderson was taken into the locker room and did not return.

While his status for Saturday’s game against the Lions is up in there at this moment and no decision has been made – and won’t be made until later in the week – “it’s highly unlikely” he’ll be in the line-up.

“With the short turnaround until the next game, the prudent course of action will probably be to err on the side of caution and hold him out,” the source said, adding that Anderson seemed to be in good spirits.

Teams normally use the third game of the pre-season as a full-scale dress rehearsal. Given the performance of the first-team offense last night, Anderson missing any type of real-game action would have to be viewed as a setback for the club.

In other injury news, the early word on Josh Cribbs’ ankle is that “it’s at least a sprain”, although a definitive diagnosis has yet to be reached as the organization awaits results from medical tests today. There is no word yet as to the extent of the injuries suffered by Brodney Pool (possible concussion) and Leon Williams (neck).
