OWINGS MILLS -- The Baltimore Ravens reached a six-year agreement with cornerback Samari Rolle on Monday afternoon, filling the gap created when Gary Baxter joined the Cleveland Browns last Friday.

Rolle, 28, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2000 with the Tennessee Titans. Along with new Ravens receiver Derrick Mason, Rolle was a salary-cap casualty before the free agent signing period in Tennessee.

Rolle had also been pursued by the Kansas City Chiefs, but their interest cooled on him because of his narrowing spinal column. He didn't actually flunk their physical, but it apparently raised concerns with the Chiefs.

Rolle, who turns 29 in August, played collegiately at Florida State where he wore the No. 2 jersey with the permission of Ravens nickel back and Seminoles legend Deion Sanders.

Rolle was accompanied by his wife, Danisha, at the Ravens' training complex.

Rolle was arrested last month for a misdemeanor domestic assault on his wife on Valentine's Day. He faces a sentence or probation or a maximum of a year in jail if convicted.

The next court date is April 6 in Franklin, Tenn. Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil had dinner with the Rolles and said he wasn't concerned about the assault charge.

Danisha Rolle was treated for a cut over her left eye,the night of February 14 and hospital officials called law enforcement officials, according to police reports. The Rolles have been married since November 2003 and have two children. Rolle was limited to a career-low 12 games last season because of a nagging left knee injury that has been addressed with arthroscopic knee surgery.

He finished with just one interception and 28 tackles.

In 2000, Rolle intercepted seven passes to anchor a Titans defense that went 13-3 and lost in the AFC divisional round to the Ravens.

Baxter left the Ravens for the Browns after initially reaching a verbal agreement with Baltimore. Cleveland signed him to a six-year, $30 million contract that included a $10.5 million signing bonus.

The terms of Rolle's contract weren't immediately available.
