About Bernie's Insiders

When Bernie's Insiders web site officially launched on September 8th, 2001, it was hardly a newcomer to the Cleveland Browns scene. The site had the personal involvement of Browns legend Bernie Kosar, was built and maintained by a group of fans who had long helmed the leading independent Browns website, and employed the skills of writers and experts with extensive experience covering Cleveland Browns football.

Bernie Kosar needs no introduction to Browns fans, either as an accomplished quarterback for the team in the 80s and 90s, or as a businessman who has maintained an active interest in the Cleveland community. The Bernie Kosar Charitable Trust has provided millions of dollars in help to the community since 1991. A portion of each subscription to Bernie's Insiders goes directly to the Charitable Trust to help fund its activities.

Since the site debuted in 2001, we have welcomed Bernie and a number of other Browns players to our Ask the Insiders message board and, more recently, the Chat Room. Among the many players and coaches who have visited Bernie's Insiders are: Eddie Johnson, Reggie Langhorne, Dante Lavelli, Jerry Sherk, Brian Sipe, Clay Matthews, Dick Ambrose, Mike Pruitt, Brant Boyer, and Jamel White. Bernie, Eddie, and Reggie write regular columns for Bernie's Insiders Magazine as well, which will be archived for Bernie's Insiders online subscribers.

When Bernie and his fellow Browns alumni decided to develop this website, they turned to the long-time Browns fans who had maintained a website called Browns: The Next Generation (aka "BTNG") since 1999. The site's founder, who calls himself "Art Bietz", had been on the web long before that, developing a site called Greedwatch in protest of Art Modell's move of the team in the mid-90s. During the Browns' three-year hiatus, Mr. Bietz developed the scandalously satirical Ravens Suckzone, which chronicled the many misadventures of the Baltimore Ravens during their three years before the Browns rejoined the league.

Notoriously independent and outspoken, BrownsTNG was obsessively updated with every scrap of Browns news that "The BTNG Crew" could find on a daily basis. Now that BTNG has joined forces to help create Bernie's Insiders, these have continued their efforts to funnel any piece of Browns information they can find to fans on a daily basis, and has continued to speak their mind through regular fan commentaries. Working with long-time football writers David Carducci, Mike McLain, and Lane Adkins, Bernie's Insiders hopes to provide the best possible website for Browns fans anywhere.

The heart of Bernie's Insiders, however, can be found on our message boards and chat room. It is the long-time Browns fans who come here daily to talk football, obsess over possible strategies, watch games together, or just kick back and enjoy themselves who are truly the soul of BerniesInsiders.com.

Bernie's Insiders is ultimately about Browns football, and Browns football is about the fans. Us. Players change, front offices change, coaches change, but we remain. BrownsTNG's motto was "For the fans, by the fans" and that spirit underlies everything we do.
