Arizona State's Shawn Lauvao gives the Browns needed youth and depth on the OL

BEREA—The Browns were able to get Shawn Lauvao with their second pick in the third-round (92nd overall).

The 6-3, 305 pound offensive lineman from Arizona State made 33 consecutive starts in his career. He has played both guard and tackle. He started 17 times as left guard, 12 at left tackle and four at right tackle. In 2009, Lauvao started all 12 games at left tackle.

“He’s a tough, physical player,” Eric Mangini said. “I thought he played with a good base and used his hands well.”

Mangini likes his versatility and his experience.

“You could see on tape he has a good understanding of what needs to be done,” Mangini said.

“We’ll talk about where he plays, but you always like a guy who can play multiple spots.”

Mangini indicated Lauvao will probably start at guard and might have a chance to get in the rotation at right guard. With the loss of Rex Hadnot in free agency, Lauvao could push Floyd Womack for playing time on the right side.

Mike Holmgren gave his thoughts on Lauvao.

“I think he kind of looks like a guard.”
