As expected, Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth was reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell following the Super Bowl.
Also as expected, the Browns have released the wide receiver. And they did it it in a mere 12 words. Or almost one word for every reception of Stallworth’s Browns career.
“The Cleveland Browns today terminated the contract of wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth.”
That was the extent of the release from the Browns, officially ending Stallworth’s two-year stint with the club that was marked by little production on the field and legal turmoil off of it.
Stallworth was signed as a free agent by the Browns in March of 2008, and played in only 11 games with the club due to injury and the fact that he ran over a person with a moving vehicle. In those 11 games – seven of which were starts – Stallworth had a grand total of 17 receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown.
In March of 2009, Stallworth infamously struck and killed a pedestrian in Miami. Stallworth was drunk at the time, and ultimately served 24 days of a 30-day sentence. He was suspended without pay by Goodell in August of last year.
