The impact of today's Oakland victory over Kansas City is that there is a simpler path than before for the Browns to make the playoffs. The Broncos - Cardinals game (where we would have hoped for a Broncos win) is no longer critical for the Browns, except in less-likely playoff scenarios.
First off, of course, the Browns must beat the Falcons. If they can't accomplish that, then the rest of this is likely unimportant. Their task became somewhat more difficult tonight as the Giants clinched a wildcard spot with a win over the Eagles. The Falcons now are in the position of having to win to get in, although they could back into the playoffs with a Saints loss.
Per usual, we're going to ignore the possibility of ties. Here are the new playoff scenarios:
1. Browns win and Jets beat the Packers
2. Browns win and Dolphins beat the Patriots
3. Browns lose and Patriots, Jets, Broncos, Ratbirds, and Chargers all also lose.
That's the way I figure it this evening. If you think I got something wrong, feel free to .
