Three Free Agents, Three Tales Premium Story
Browns Berea

Posted Mar 5, 2008

Here's the latest on three free agents of interest to the Browns. Find out where they're at, and why they haven't signed (yet). More exclusive info from the OBR as the free agency signing period continues...

The agent for free agent Ethan Kelley, Neil Cornrich, has confirmed our report from earlier this morning, telling The Orange & Brown Report that his client has indeed visited with the Bengals.

"He had a good visit (with the Bengals) and is currently on his way to his home in Cleveland," Cornrich said in a phone conversation earlier this afternoon.

Cornrich would not comment on whether the defensive lineman received a contract offer from the Bengals following the meet and greet, but a league source tells The OBR that there were "discussions" between the two sides.

Additionally, the source stated, there are a handful of additional teams currently interested in the five-year veteran.  One of those teams includes the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, although an official visit has yet to be scheduled.

Again, and as his policy, Cornrich refused to confirm any specific interest in his client.

Browns sources have repeatedly told The OBR they have an interest in retaining Kelley, but were willing to allow the DL to test the market.

BLACKSTOCK UPDATE: As we reported in Ask the Insiders on Wednesday morning, free agent linebacker Darryl Blackstock got a late start in Cleveland due to weather delaying a connecting flight. He worked out in Cleveland on Wednesday.

At 4PM Wednesday, Lane reported that Blackstock had left Cleveland and was heading to the airport. Blackstock had a had a scheduled flight to Cincinnati to meet with the Bengals on Thursday.

While displaying interest in the three-year veteran, the Browns have not entered into contract negotiations with the outside linebacker at this time.

HADNOT SANS OFFERS: We've been told through league sources that Rex Hadnot has not landed a deal because of his asking price. Apparently, Hadnot is asking for a 5-year $25-million deal. Multiple teams are interested in him, but not at that price.

The lineman visited Cleveland earlier this week, but left without a contract, venturing on to other hot spots like Kansas City and Pittsburgh in recent days.
