Browns Keep Bentley on PUP List

In an unsurprising move, the Browns have elected to keep the former All-Pro offensive lineman on the shelf until 2008.

Last Sunday, a Browns fan expressed enthusiasm for the Browns offensive line and the potential return of former All-Pro LeCharles Bentley by hanging up a sign which read "The Cadillac of Offensive Lines... with a Bentley in the Garage".

While the team's offensive line has been the centerpiece of their 2007 revival, the Bentley will remain in the garage for now.

In a move which will surprise few who read the Orange and Brown Report, the Browns have elected to keep LeCharles Bentley on the reserve list through the rmainder of the season. He is ineligible to practice with the Browns or participate in any of the team's regular season games.

Bentley tore a patellar tendon on the first play of training camp in 2006. Last week, DB Gary Baxter, who tore two patellar tendons in a game against Denver that same year, was placed on the Injured Reserve and likewise lost for the season.

The Browns have been muted about Bentley's prospects throughout 2007, and have not been encouraging about the potential to see the 2006 free agent signing on the field. The lack of optimism coming from team's executives has been palpable, even while those surrounding Bentley, and the player himself, sent positive vibes out through the media.

"As we've said all along, we want to give LeCharles the best opportunity for a successful return," GM Phil Savage said via a press release on Tuesday afternoon. "It is our belief that allowing him to continue his rehabilitation in preparation for 2008 training camp is the best way to do that."

Fans hoping to see how Bentley could help the team's offensive line get even better will have to wait until next off-season.
