The Browns lost another bidding war this afternoon, as DE Kenyon Coleman elected to sign a contract with the New York Jets.
Coleman played largely in a backup role for the Cowboys in 2006, and would have competed for the starting defensive end position vacated by Alvin McKinley, who is an unrestricted free agent. Coleman appeared in every game for the Cowboys last season, and recorded 31 tackles with two quarterback sacks.
A number of defensive ends and defensive tackles remain on the free agent market. Because of the Browns 3-4 system, the team usually looks at larger linemen at the defensive end position. The team entertained restricted free agent Shaun Smith (Cincinnati) and is believed to have an interest in DT Robaire Smith, an unrestricted free agent who has played with the Tennessee Titans.
