Browns Dump Four Assistants
Berea Cleveland Browns

Posted Jan 5, 2007

The OBR reported exclusively earlier this week that the Browns front office was going to sit down on Friday, and it's no surprise that today we get word of four assistant coaches getting the axe in Cleveland...

The Browns today have announced that four assistant coaches will not be with the team in 2007. Look for exclusive analysis of this, along with more information, tonight on the OBR.

Two of the coaches released might be considered a surprise to some fans: Strength and Condition coach John Lott was a favorite of many after his appearance at the Indianapolis Combine two years ago, and TE coach Ben Coates was in charge of Kellen Winslow, who made 89 catches this year.

The OBR is working on identifying potential replacements and bringing you the scoop on the reasons behind the releases of these particular assistants. Look for more from us this evening.

Here is the team's press release:

BROWNS ANNOUNCE COACHING STAFF CHANGES

The Cleveland Browns announced that Ben Coates, tight ends coach, Carl Crennel II, offensive quality control coach, John Lott, strength and conditioning coach, and Terry Robiskie, wide receivers coach, will not be retained for the 2007 season.

“I would like to thank these four coaches for their service to the Browns since my arrival here two years ago, especially Terry Robiskie, who served as wide receivers coach, offensive coordinator and interim head coach during his six years with the Browns,” Browns head coach Romeo Crennel said. “These decisions were made with the best interest of the franchise in mind.”
