Injury Update: Charlie Frye

Here's the latest on the Browns QB situation from Berea. The Browns QB does not have broken wrist, but remains doubtful for Thursday night's game. Here are the details from your friends at the OBR...

An MRI done on Charlie Frye's injured right wrist showed a bone bruise but no break. He could not practice Tuesday and is unlikely to play against the Steelers Thursday night in Pittsburgh.

"It's sore," Frye said in the locker room before practice. "I'm trying to do everything I can to get ready to play. This is definitely a game I had circled after what happened a couple weeks ago. They came here and basically stole a victory from us. As much as I want to play, it's up to Doc."

Coach Romeo Crennel said he will wait to see how Frye is Wednesday and Thursday morning before naming his starting quarterback. It does not look good for Frye. He has not picked up a football since halftime Sunday.

Derek Anderson will make his first NFL start if Frye cannot play. Anderson took the majority of snaps in practice Tuesday. Ken Dorsey took a few snaps. Anderson sounded confident. He knows he will see the Steelers blitzing as soon as the National Anthem ends.

"You have to know they're going to bring pressure," Anderson said. "We're going to deal with it. I have to get the ball out of my hands quickly. They're going to hit me. That's part of the game. You have to step into your throws and be on point."

Anderson completed 12 of 21 passes for 171 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Chiefs. He did not experience the pass rush he will see in Heinz Field. Frye was sacked five times last month in the 24-20 Pittsburgh win and eight times when the Steelers hammered the Browns 41-0.

Frye was injured in the first quarter against the Chiefs when he tried bracing himself as he fell. Initial reports from teammates said the wrist was broken. Frye continued playing, missed one series to get X-Rays and then finished the first half. Doctors shut him down after another examination.

Frye is wearing a splint on his right wrist to immobilize it. He said he does not have full feeling because of the brace.
