The Week's Results:
Those of you snickering at Butch Davis' stint as the Der NFL Network's high
commissar of draft expertise might throw up a little in your mouth today as two
of Butch's 2004 draft picks helped his successor and finished in the top five in
Gameballs and Goats. Meanwhile, the goats column was dominated by more recent
additions. Strange, that.

Charlie looks like he has the skills and leadership to bring our team

Leigh Bodden continues to distinguish himself as the best player on
this defense. - Charlie Frye held on to the ball too long a couple of
times, but this offense wouldn't have done a thing if it hadn't been for
his ability to make plays. If Northcutt doesn't drop that 3rd down play
and Edwards holds on to that last ball, it is a very different game. -
Kellen Winslow is finally here, and that is what we always hoped to see.
Fire, determination, and incredible talent. Just wait until he shakes
off the rust.

Kellen Winslow showed why he was the 6th pick in the 2004 draft. If,
he stays healthy we will finally have a Pro Bowl player on this team.
Leigh Bodden shut down Joe Horn today.....he's the best Corner we have
on this team.
Charlie brought this team back....my fear is the Mo is going to get him
killed with those blind rollouts. Charlie needs to see where he's
throwing or even running instead of being at a disadvantage running to
his blindside!!!
I have faith like a fool, but... GO BROWNS!!!!

Frye made some mistakes (held the ball too long, his INT), but
overall it was a growth game for him and he did well. KWII played with
fire I wish all of them had shown.

I thought Fraley played solid enough on such short notice. Sean Jones
had an interception and a fumble recovery, but we couldn't capitalize.
Last but not least, K2 gets a gameball. 7 catches for 63 yards and a TD,
I'll take that. It was good to see him healthy and making plays.

Losing to the Saints means NOBODY deserves a gameball. What a truly
awful game. There might have been flashes of individual performances
here and there, but overall this was a stinker and every player and

Winslow - We finally got to see the KWII we'd all been waiting for.
He was mean, tough and full of energy.
Frye - I don't care what the haters will say, Frye & Winslow were the
only reasons we had any sort of offensive spark in the second half at
all. His ability to avoid the constant pressure and get some key throws
off was the only reason we were in the game at all.
Washington - A couple of key run stops, especially at the goal line. He
did what he was brought in to do - plug up the middle, and he did it
wonderfully.

the offense finally showed up in the 2nd half, but it was too late,
and when we needed the d to step up and spot them we let them go down
the field and score. some of the positives kellen looked good, making
plays blocking and yelling at the offense to get them fired up. great
job.. frye looked good at times but he is a young qb and only his 6th
start, but the thing that made me feel good is he threw a couple of good
deep balls. its going to be a long season but as long as they continue
to jell and improve that's all we can ask for. the thing to watch for is
how we adjust for next weeks game. go browns

Frye made a couple mistakes, but it's only his second year, besides
look at his o-line. Jones had two big plays, the INT and fumble

Not great in the stats, but Frye played a great game today. Two

Maurice Carthon stays here until he shows ANY ability calling plays.
Where the HELL was Joe Jurevicius all day? Where was the protection for

where we'd be? Where was the run defense we saw in preseason?

skat007

The offensive line was manhandled by a defense that isn't as good as
the Browns made them look. Charlie was running for his life all day and
Droughns only had 2 or 3 plays where there was any room to run. Kevin
Shaffer has been unimpressive so far. - I love Braylon Edwards, but
today he has to get the horns from me for letting that ball bounce out
of his hands. It was a PERFECT pass, Braylon's got to catch that with
the game in the balance. - The TV announcers were HORRIBLE!!! How many
times do you have to repeat the exact same thing? And I mean, repeat the
exact same words with the exact same inflection and the exact same tone
of voice. Man, that was annoying broadcasting.

Shaffer's holding penalty on the first play of the game set the tone.
Plus the fact fact he was beat 200 times it seem, basically the whole
O-line was beaten like a drum!!! Mo Carthon to me is the worst
Coordinator in football. There is no reason that it should have taken 27
minutes and change to get 1 first down. It's because of Carthon we
lost.....our defense didn't get to rest period!!! I said it 3 years ago
and I said it last year DENNIS NORTHCUTT SUCKS. He can't catch a cold,
if you see your QB in trouble why can't you catch the freakin ball and
keep your feet inbounds at the same time? Andra Davis over ran plays all
day long and Ralph Brown is inconsistent....you got beat by a 7th round
draft choice on simple curl route for a touchdown. WOW!!!!

Absolutely the worst OC in the NFL. Made no adjustments in the first
half when N.O. was putting 8 in the box. Despite a defense obviously
designed to stop the run, he continually ran into the heart of it with
no results. Then he called sweeps on third and one plays, and a botched
draw play when there was still time near the Red Zone to take a shot at
scoring a TD. He is awful. I want him fired.

Even with all the moves we made during the offseason, we never missed

Naturally, Maurice Carthon gets a goathorn for being an idiot. Twenty
bucks says he'll make this list every week. The offense as a whole
played poorly. The D and special teams set them up nice many times and
they did nothing with what they had. Frye cannot be holding on to the
ball that long. I gave Ralph Brown a goathorn just because he sucks.

WR unit - Too many dropped passes at key times during the game.
Northcutt's 3rd & 15 drop and Braylon's drop on the last play. If these
guys would catch the ball when it's thrown right at them (like they're
paid to do), we might win this game. Mo - Horrendous playcalling.
Three times on short yardage he calls a pitch back, one to a rookie.
When you need inches, why toss it behind the line 5 yards? Makes no
sense. He is on a very short leash.
O Line - Frye had no time to throw and had to scramble way too often. If
they don't come together soon, we'll be looking at a hurt Frye and a
year of Dorsey ahead of us. I shudder at the thought.

The offense let us down today. The play calling was highly
questionable. Sweeps to the fullback on 3rd and one? The OL? Well its
the Browns OL. Frye made some bad reads. Do we need to put a GPS
on Winslow? The last time he played for us Garcia couldn't find him,
there were moments today he is running open and Frye doesn't look at
him. Plus there were some flatout missed throws. He had some nice plays
too, so I am not jumping ship on him, but when I watch the USC game
Saturday night I will be keeping a close eye on John. Lastly my old
friend Butch Davis. The problem is we are still a team that 2 years ago
had less than nothing to start with, and the reason was that dumbass
left no building blocks.

Other than Sean Jones the coverage was terrible in the backfield.
Penalties on the o-line killed any play we had over five yards.
The announcers couldn't have shown more love for Reggie Bush. It's

I am putting Grantham on the list, but suspect it is Romeo. Why isn't

Braylon looks like the second coming of Quincy Morgan/Antonio Bryant/Dennis Dropcutt. 2 interceptions in Frye's short career can be
blamed on BE's stone hands. I'd love to just blame it on Carthon
cause that seems to be the thing to do, but I blame the entire coaching
staff for not having this team's intensity at the level it should have
been. Crennel admitted so in his presser and I find that disturbing and
disheartening. Shaffer and Coleman both had holding penalties at
horrible times. When they weren't busy holding, they were ineffective at
best in run and pass blocking. Terrible performance against a weak

I think that the tempo for the players is drawn from the head coach,
he shows so little life on the sideline, if he is as upbeat in the

tossed around and looked lost for the whole game. Washington let
