Braylon, Willie Back: WR Braylon Edwards and LB Willie McGinest both made their preseason debut. Edwards entered the game on the Browns
first series on a short pass to RB Jerome Harrison. Edwards caught his first
pass on third-and-five from the Bills’ 11 to give the Browns a first down on the
two for a nine-yard gain. It took two guys to tackle Edwards. He made a huge
block on a run by Reuben Droughns. He also was upended on a slant pass before
the half.
Crennel was happy with Edwards, who ended up playing 16
plays with one reception for nine yards.
“We felt good about getting him a little time,” Crennel
said.
McGinest made a tackle on his first play from scrimmage.
He jumped offside on the next play.
Big Pick: Seventh-round draft choice S Justin Hamilton made
a big interception in the end zone on a pass thrown by QB Craig Nall as it
appeared the Bills would take the lead with just under eight minutes to play in
the game. The Browns capitalized on the turnover and turned it into a touchdown
to take a 17-10 lead.
Sack Time: Frye was sacked in the first quarter by DE Aaron Schobel on third down on the Browns second offensive series. Frye was sacked for
the second time when it appeared he hung on to the ball too long. For the
Browns, DL Nick Eason had a sack on Losman in the second quarter. LB Andra Davis
added a sack on Losman in the second quarter. LB Kamerion Wimbley had a sack for
the second-straight game in the third quarter as he hit QB Craig Nall and
stripped him of the ball, but Buffalo
recovered.
Big Hit: S Sean Jones made a big hit on WR Lee Evans in
breaking up a third down play to force the Bills to punt. S Brodney Pool also
made a nice place in breaking up a pass in the third quarter. Pool had five
tackles to pace the Browns.
Brown Pick: CB Ralph Brown intercepted a pass by Losman in
the third quarter after getting beat for a touchdown earlier in the game.
Thompson Starts: LB Chaun Thompson started in place of D'Qwell Jackson. It was Thompson’s first action of the season. Thompson made
some nice plays. In the third quarter, he brought RB Willis McGahee down for a
loss. Both Thompson and Jackson had three tackles.
Injury Update: S Shawn Mayer injured his left knee in the
fourth quarter. Other than Mayer, no other serious injuries appeared to come out
of the game.
Throwback: The Bills wore throwback uniforms from the days
of QB Jack Kemp and RB OJ Simpson.
Wright First: RB Jason Wright was inserted prior to Lee Suggs and William Green after Reuben Droughns and Jerome Harrison.
