The great Browns guard may finally get the recognition his accomplishments merit...

Cleveland Browns offensive guard Gene Hickerson, who played from 1958 - 1973, has been nominated for the Hall of Fame by the HOF Seniors Committee. Along with Hickerson, the committee has recommended Detroit Lions TE Charlie Sanders.

The nomination is considered long-overdue by Browns fans and members of the local media. Hickerson's career included blocking for Browns Hall of Fame running backs Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly, and participating in six Browns division championship teams. Hickerson was also an important part of the Browns 1964 championship teams.

While nominees from the Seniors Committee have a good track record of making the Hall, there is no guarantee that Hickerson will make the final cut. The voting will take place in February, before the Super Bowl.

Here is the official announcement on the Official Hall of Fame web site
