Droughns Relieved: RB Reuben Droughns was back on the practice field after
arriving back from a preliminary trial in Colorado on Monday. The
trial was set for Feb. 5, 2007.
He was on the field at about 3:10 pm, about a half hour late.
“I’m relieved,” he said. “We accomplished what we wanted to do in pushing the
trial back until after the season.”
Crennel was also pleased.
“It’s good to know his season or our season won’t be interrupted,” Crennel
said. “It’s probably good for him, too to clear his head and not worry about
it.”
Braylon’s Progress: WR Braylon Edwards seems to continue to make progress. He
has been on the ground going for passes and getting knocked down and seemingly
unharmed.
“He seems to be doing pretty good with it,” Crennel said. “He takes a tumble
and has gotten back up. We are going to continue to be cautious with him.”
Crennel said he hasn’t decided if Edwards will play Saturday against the
Bills.
“The biggest thing that weighs into the decision is talking to the medical
people and Braylon himself.”
Nice Plays: QB Darrell Hackney hit WR Travis Wilson on a long pass down the
sideline. Wilson made a nice catch and beat two defenders on the play in Ralph Brown and Brian Russell. Also, Hackney was intercepted by CB Leigh Bodden, who returned the ball
for a score and then promptly spiked the ball in the endzone.
Injury Update: CB Gary Baxter (pectoral), CB Daylon McCutcheon (knee), OT
Ryan Tucker (knee) and OL Isaac Sowells (ankle) were on the field but did not
practice. All but Tucker were on the bicycle.
Big Trade: The Browns traded WR Carlton Brewster to Green Bay for DB Therrian Fontenot. Fontenot (5-10, 187 pounds) was on the Packers practice squad in 2005
and appeared in one game on special teams. Fontenot was an undrafted free agent
out of Fresno State. Brewster was an undrafted rookie
from Ferris State.
“We have a need for a corner,” Crennel said. “With a couple of our guys
banged up, we thought we could use some depth.”
