Lee Suggs says he was shocked to learn he failed his
physical with the Jets Tuesday. As if to rub salt in the wound, he found out
from an intern, not from Coach Eric Mangini.
Suggs was back at practice with the Browns Wednesday,
one day after learning he would not be a Jet with a chance to start. Instead,
he's back competing with William Green as the No. 2 back for the Browns.
The Browns traded Suggs to the Jets Monday for
cornerback Derrick Strait, but that was negated when Suggs failed the physical.
According to reports from New York the Jets found a problem with his left knee.
"I practiced throughout training camp and all of the
spring (with the Browns)," he said. "I did all the workouts, passed the
physicals here and everything was fine. Then I went up to New York, and I
failed. So, yes I was shocked."
Suggs was welcomed back by his teammates. He practiced
Wednesday as though nothing happened. He said he was looking forward to possibly
starting for the Jets.
"I don’t want to be traded," he said. "I love it here
in Cleveland, but if opportunity arises I will take it and see where that takes
me. This is just another thing I have to put behind me. I have had a lot of
things to overcome, and this is just another hurdle for me. I’m never shaken in
my ability. I know I can play. I just need the opportunity."
Coach Romeo Crennel said Suggs could be traded again,
but now with the Jets failing him he is damaged goods.
