Tuesday is the Browns day off in Berea, but that doesn't mean that there has
been a lack of news on the team.
Over the last twelve hours, Browns fans providing info to the
Bernie's
Insiders Tipline have helped us stay up-to-date with several items of Browns
news which have broken on the local Cleveland airwave. The Bernie's Insiders
tipline is available via our menu systems or via the tabbed "Newswire" widget on
the front page of BerniesInsiders.com.
Here are the stories which have emerged over the course of the day. We will
be discussing these during tonight's
Bernie's Insiders Radio Program.
1. Reuben Droughns Arrested for DUI
According to reports on the local news (Fox 8 in Cleveland), Browns RB Reuben
Droughns was picked up on suspicion of driving under intoxication (DUI) last
night in Cleveland. This is currently being
discussed in the Watercooler, where long-time visitor Glenn brought it to
our attention. Thanks to RamboDawg for the tip!
We would like to stress that very little information about this situation has
actually been brought forth at this time. Local news stations, who have a
presence at Cleveland's justice center, have a tendency to jump on stories like
this and herald them in their evening newscast. It isn't known what, if any,
impact these charges will have on the Cleveland Browns.
2. TE Billy Miller Released
The Browns acquired Billy Miller shortly after the start of the season when
the team was hit by yet-another injury at the tight end position, namely to TE
Aaron Shea. Since Shea has returned to the Browns line-up, Miller has spent the
last several weeks inactive. Thanks to "JakeTheSnake" for the tip!
The Browns have kept Miller inactive the last several weeks, and he didn't
distinguish himself during his opportunities with the team early in the season.
At this point, the team has not announced who will take Miller's place on the
active roster. We reported exclusively in Ask the Insiders that the team had
tried out several player last week. The Browns have also said that they are
going to look at some additional punters, although it's not considered too
likely that the team would carry multiple punters on the roster.
Here is the team's official press release:
The Cleveland Browns have terminated the contract of TE Billy Miller, the
club announced today.
Miller, 6-3 and 245 lbs., joined the Browns one week before the start of
the regular season and appeared in three games this season, including one start
at Green Bay on Sept. 18. Miller did not have any catches this season as he was
used primarily as a blocking tight end.
Miller is a six-year veteran of the NFL with Denver, Houston and Cleveland
and has totaled 114 receptions for 1,212 yards and seven touchdowns during his
NFL career.
3. Savage Vows that Dilfer Will Start on Sunday
On local radio station WTAM, Browns GM Phil Savage told the team's flagship
station that Trent Dilfer will start this weekend against the Tennessee Titans.
There had been considerable media speculation, fueled in part by non-committal
remarks by Browns head coach Romeo Crennel on Monday, that the would consider
starting rookie QB Charlie Frye. Bernie's Insiders will be providing text of
Crennel's Monday remarks in a separate article.
Thanks to "P. Jewett" for the tip on the Bernie's Insiders tipline this
morning!
