newswire wrap...
Wow. Just wow.
Coming off a weekend that arguably gave us our first drought in Browns news
since the beginning of the year, the local Browns press corps more than made up
for it with a blitz of articles which comprises a packed-to-the-gills
Daily Newswire.
WINSLOW'S WORDS: Yesterday, Romeo Crennel said something to the effect
that there is no closure in football. There's always another season, after all.
If there's such a thing as "temporary closure" - finishing something for a
while at least - we may have found it with the Kellen Winslow saga.
The Beacon-Journal's Pat McManamon gets major props this morning for getting Kellen Winslow, Jr., to
open up to fans by proxy. The interview, which should go a ways towards
re-building bridges that the Winslow family seemed intent on torching, leads off
today's
newswire.
"Just stick with me,'' Winslow tells fans through
Pat Mac. "I'm going to be back"
Although a lot of fans are tired of the Kellen
Winslow story and want to move on, I'd like to see folks balance the tight end's
own words against all the anti-Winslow polemics which have popped up everywhere,
including this site. It's
well worth reading, even if you're sick of the Winslow soap opera.
More information about Winslow shows up in Mary Kay Cabot's article on
Winslow's upcoming surgery. There's also
an Associated Press
story which builds off of McManamon's piece and the
Warren-Tribune's Mike McLain,
Dayton Daily News' Sean McClelland and the
Official Site's Zac Jackson use to the Winslow surgery story to lead off
mini-camp wrap-ups.
GREEN GREETINGS: William Green has emerged from the shadows in recent
months and continues to work his way into a competitive position. A number of
stories this morning focus on Green, who looked solid in practice and spoke to
the press afterwards.
The Canton Repository's Steve Doerschuck postulates that the Browns
"sucker-punched"
Green with their suggestion he look for a trade to see if he could bounce
back. Green reveals that he didn't look for a trade and prefers to focus on
preparation, working out, and watching film. The Plain Dealer's
Tony Grossi looks at what Green has endured, calling him "The Survivor". The
Beacon-Journal's Tom Reed also provides
an update on the Green story.
THREE OTHER STORIES FROM CAMP: Green, Winslow, and camp itself weren't
the only stories which emerged from the press' Monday access to the team. Here
are several other major storylines:
