With the NFL Europe season kicking off this weekend, here are how Browns
allocated to Europe are faring:
Amsterdam Admirals
The only player on the Admirals in DT John Nix, who will be starting at left
tackle as the Admirals begin their season. The Admirals game will be televised
on the NFL Network Saturday at 12 Noon EST>
Frankfurt Galaxy
The defending World Bowl champs are helped by a couple of Browns players
starting on defense: DE Corey Jackson (starting at left end) and LB Mason Unck
(starting in the middle). Ricky Sharpe, who played at cornerback in Cleveland,
is listed as the starting free safety for the Galaxy. The Galaxy play the
Admirals in the above-mentioned game on the NFL Network.
Scottish Claymores
Both Nate Hybl and Cedric Scott are off to strong starts with Glasgow-based
club. Hybl won the starting quarterback job away from Curt Anes (Lions) and Tom Arth (Colts), although Anes will likely see some playing time in relief. The
Claymores play in Berlin on Sunday. Hybl is also listed as the back-up punter.
Berlin Thunder
Richard Alston didn't crack the starting lineup for the Thunder, but should
see some playing time. Alston will return punts for Berlin and may see some
action on kick-offs.
Cologne Centurions
Felipe Claybrooks has been penciled in as the starting right defensive end
for the Centurion. Derek Schorejs will kick. Cologne and Rhein will play Sunday
at 10AM on the NFL Network, with a replay at 8PM.
Rhein Fire
Joffrey Reynolds is the backup running back for the Fire, sitting behind
Walter Williams on the depth chart. Browns fans interested in the team's depth
at left tackle might want to keep an eye on Chuck Klabo, who has been named as
the starting LT for the Fire.
Ex-Browns in NFL Europe
WR Antoine Burns started off poorly by arriving late to the Admirals. He had
passport problems trying to get to Europe.
DL Israel Idonije is the back-up right defensive end for the Berlin Fire.
S Rashidi Barnes, who made eight tackles during the World Bowl, is back once
more with the Frankfurt Galaxy. So is WR Marc Soumah, who was with the Browns
last summer and is the Galaxy's third WR.
Ex-Brown Damian Gregory backs up current Browns Cedric Scott at defensive
tackle for the Claymores. Howard Clark is a backup at both outside linebacker
and long snapper. Akron grad Ryan Myers, who was with the Browns last summer at
rookie camp, is starting at OLB. Myers now plays for the Jets.
The Berlin Thunder have two recent ex-Browns on their offensive line: Ben Claxton is playing center, and Troy Andrew is at guard. Andrew was an All-NFL
Europe player last year. Oliver Celestin, who was an undrafted free agent with
the Browns last year, is starting at safety for Berlin.
Earthwind Moreland is a back-up cornerback with the Rhein Fire.
