Vikings continue to work DL, sign Tom Johnson
The Vikings have agreed to terms with defensive lineman Tom Johnson on a one-year, $845,000 contract that, according to ESPN, calls for $600,000 in incentives in addition to a $100,000 roster bonus and $50,000 in signing and workout bonuses.
Johnson played the last three years with the New Orleans Saints. Although he didn't make any starts, he played in 40 games, registering 55 tackles, five sacks and a forced fumble.
The 29-year-old has played in NFL Europe, the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League, and is the kind of fringe player that new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has had success with in the past.
The 6-foot-3, 288-pounder was originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted rookie in 2006.
In the last two weeks, the Vikings have signed Linval Joseph to play nose tackle and Fred Evans to back him up. Johnson is likely a backup for DT Sharrif Floyd and might even be able to take some rotational snaps at defensive end.
