Browns Re-Unite Groves with Horton

One thing is for sure--the Browns are hitting free agency with much more of a bang than Tom Heckert did the last two seasons.

In the first 16 hours of the free agency period the Browns have added three defensive players to the team, two outside linebackers and a defensive lineman.

The latest addition is outside linebacker Quentin Groves, who played last season under Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton in Arizona. Groves seemed to blossom under Horton with career bests of 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks in seven starts. He played in all 16 games.

Numerous league sources, including ESPN have reported the signing, although the Browns have not officially announced it.

Groves (6-3, 265) falls under Horton’s mantra of “big guys who can run” and is still in the prime of his career at 28 years old.

Groves was originally selected in the second-round of the NFL Draft by the Jaguars but after two unproductive seasons moved to the Raiders for two seasons. He had just 2.5 sacks in his first four seasons before stepping into Horton’s 3-4 scheme with the Cardinals.

Groves is another of the players that were on the Browns radar from before free agency and the signing adds more depth at a position where the Browns had very little going into free agency.
