This is where the Browns stand as free agency on the horizon. In addition with a few of the posts from the rumors forum are questions from the Ask The Insiders forum, as it pertains to the subject.

Despite speculation, theOBR has learned Browns are not one of the teams calling the Minnesota Vikings regarding WR Percy Harvin.
TheOBR has learned the Browns have had a brief discussion with the agent for FA OG Louis Vasquez, as well as other FA players the agent represents.
ATI: Brian5: I may have missed it if you did mention him somewhere or was asked about him; but since our guard position has been noted as needing to be upgraded - any talk of Andy Levitre from Buffalo?
LA: I have heard Vasquez, not Levitre.
TheOBR has learned the Browns will not be making a serious run at the WR. The WRbhas received significant interest from two teams which fit into the geographic region he prefers to play in.
As reported by theOBR early Saturday.......the Browns have been in contact with the agent of ILB Ellerbe.
TheOBR has learned the ILB will have an opportunity to gain a deal the 30 million dollar estimated deal being sought if the ILB hits the open market on Tuesday.
ATI: OSUBrownsfan21: Lane, in what you posted in the rumors forum, are you saying WE, the Browns, are willing to pay Ellerbe that $30 mil dollar deal he seeks? If so, that would be a great bargain IMO. Hopefully it's enough to pry him away from Baltimore.
LA: I believe he stays in Baltimore

Sean Smith (UPDATED)
The Browns will not pursue CB Sean Smith at this time.
Just to reaffirm our reports prior to FA, the Browns have an interest in the CB.
A source tells theOBR the Browns and Ravens are expected to inquire about recently released OLB James Harrison.
TheOBR has learned the Browns and the agent for Josh Cribbs have not had further discussions -- Cribbs has received interest from seven teams thus far.
TheOBR has learned the Browns have shown interest in WR Danario Alexander
TheOBR has learned the Browns are expected to inquire about RFA DE/OLB Rob Jackson
TheOBR has learned the Browns have made contact with the agent for OLB Paul Kruger
As of 12:45 a.m. Set the Browns had not spoken with the agent for OLB Paul Kruger
As of 1:00 a.m. EST the Browns had not spoken with the agent for WR Mike Wallace
The agent for ILB Ellerbe is not taking calls at the present time regarding his client. Word is the Ravens and Ellerbe have a deal in place.
The Browns have been in contact for the agent of WR/KR Julian Edleman.
The Browns have been in contact with the agent for TE Brandon Myers.
ATI: 5cota: What is going on TE front?
LA: Pretty quiet.
I know they called on Myers and have heard nothing further.
The Browns have been in contact with the agent for DE Cliff Avril
ATI: jlacroix: Any word on Avrill
LA: Interest on both sides. Since they cannot negotiate, everything will start to occur quickly come Tuesday.
The Browns have been in contact with the agent for CB Antoine Cason
The Browns have been in contact with the agent for CB Sean Smith
The Browns have been in contact with the agent for CB Rogers-Cromartie
The Browns have been in contact with the agent for CB Keenan Lewis.
ATI: Urbie: Hey Lane, I was reading this regarding the possibility of Washington releasing DeAngelo Hall, "Hall surrendered 374 yards after the catch, the third-highest among all cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus, and allowed a catch rate of 67.0 percent in 2012. It could explain why Hall was targeted 112 times, a figure that tied him with Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis for the second-highest in the league."
I have been excited about the prospect of us getting Lewis. What do you think about this stat? Apparently, opposing QBs don't mind throwing in his direction at all. Should I be curbing my enthusiasm?
LA: You'll get that playing opposite Ike Taylor and the number of times teams threw the ball against the Steelers.
Lewis is not a star or special CB in my opinion, more workmanlike and steady.
Friday, March 8
TheOBR has learned Ellerbe's agent BELIEVES a team is set to move on his client immediately -- Saturday.
The Browns are a team of great interest.
WR Mike Wallace continues to intrigue.
Separate sources tell theOBR differing views on the Browns and the WR.
One source tells theOBR the Browns are in, another states the Browns will pass.
We will continue to dig.
More Pass Rush
All things being equal........contract, etc
The Browns are leaning toward Cliff Avril
Status does not appear to be an issue for Browns. TheOBR has learned the Browns will engage one RFA player early in the FA process.
ATI: Brian5: Here is a 3 part question for you:
1. You've named Hoyer as a QB possibility - could he be the RFA being referred to?
- on a side note, I'd love for it to be Dennis Pitta, but since the Browns don't have a 2nd rounder to use I don't believe they could go after him.
2. From the rumblings you have came across, I'm asking you (Lane) to state you "think may" happen once the ink is dry - scale of 1 to 5 this player is a Brown:
3. Out of the following players, from your gatherings, give me the player that has the highest chance of being a Brown:
LA: 1. I don't believe it to be Hoyer. I am thinking defense.
TheOBR has been told the Browns intend on making a move on a complete surprise player in FA that has not been mentioned by the media or linked to the Browns in any manner.
We are attempting to track down the goods.
ATI: brownsrthebest04: Lane have you gotten which side of the ball the surprise player is on?
LA: Not a clue, not giving me that one.
“TheOBR has learned the Browns brass is split on Avril or Kruger. Meetings Thursday and Fiday A.M. Will dictate the course.”
“TheOBR has learned the Browns have Brian Hoyer, Chase Daniel and DA rated similarly as FA approaches.
Different strengths and weaknesses, but not one that specifically stands out head and shoulders above the other.
I am told they like one slightly better and am attempting to nail down which player is rated highest.”
“Ellerbe and the Ravens have had substantial talks, with progress in negotiations.
Right now, it's 50-50 he makes it to FA”
