The Arizona Cardinals snapped a nine-game losing streak on Sunday, getting a much needed win against the Detroit Lions. Although Arizona was on the right side of a 38-10 lopsided affair, the season is once again a lost cause with the final two games of the year proving to be meaningless in terms of reaching the postseason.

Instead, the Cardinals will now be playing for pride, contract incentives and to determine where they’ll pick in the upcoming 2013 NFL Draft.

Despite managing only 196 yards of total offense, Arizona dominated Detroit on the scoreboard. As it has for most of the season, the Cardinals defense carried the team, forcing four Lions turnovers, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns. Matt Stafford was held to a QB Rating of only 37.6 and Arizona limited Detroit’s rushing attack to a mere 84 yards on 22 carries.

Meanwhile, QB Ryan Lindley wasn’t spectacular but turned the ball over only one time on the afternoon. RB Beanie Wells reached pay dirt on three occasions, finishing with 67 yards on 17 carries.

All-Pro wideout Larry Fitzgerald’s output continues to be minimal (4 catches for 22 yards) but the flow of the game didn’t call for taking many shots down the field.

While the Cardinals have little to play for, their Week 16 opponent does as the Chicago Bears will head to the desert. The Bears are still in the thick of the playoff picture and desperately need a win to keep their fading hopes alive. After a 7-1 start, Chicago has dropped five of its last six games and are currently on the outside looking in as the seventh seed in the NFC.

Arizona will attempt to play spoiler this week as a win would almost certainly seal the fate of the Bears’ postseason aspirations. The Cardinals looked rejuvenated and relieved following its fifth victory of the year on Sunday but coming out on top against a desperate Bears team could prove to be a difficult proposition.
